We know trying something new can bring up questions — and we’re here for all of them. In this space, you’ll find honest answers about using, cleaning, and caring for your Mooneva Disc, along with tips for your first cycles. Our goal is to make your experience simple, comfortable, and completely worry-free.
Getting Started

How to choose a size?
Choosing your menstrual disc size mostly depends on your cervix height and flow. Mooneva offers two options, Small for low cervix or lighter flow, and Regular for medium/high cervix or heavier flow.
How often should I empty it?
Wear time depends on your flow, usually 8–12 hours. On heavy days, empty more often, but never leave it in for more than 12 hours. Tip: empty before sex, exercise, or swimming, and again afterward.
Can I try it if my flow is light?
Yes! Just make sure not to leave it unemptied for more than 12 hours.
Is it safe for teenagers?
Yes! Menstrual discs are safe for anyone who menstruates. Teens may find the small size more comfortable, and it’s important to take your time and get familiar with your body.
Insertion & Removal

How do I insert a menstrual disc correctly?
Pinch the disc in the middle to form a long “8,” with the concave (bowl-like) side facing up. Insert it into your vagina toward your tailbone, pushing it as far back as you can. Make sure the front edge rests fully behind your pubic bone for a secure fit.
How do I know if it’s placed high enough?
Push the disc as far up as it comfortably goes. When it’s in place correctly, you shouldn’t feel it, and it shouldn’t leak.
Why does it feel like it’s falling out?
It usually feels like it’s slipping if the front edge isn’t tucked securely behind your pubic bone. Once it’s in place, it should feel comfortable and stay put without leaking.
How do I remove it without making a mess?
To be honest, a little spill can happen, especially the first few times, totally normal! We recommend doing it in the toilet or shower, pulling the loop slowly, and keeping the disc horizontal. You’ll be a pro in just a couple of tries.
What if I can’t reach it?
Don’t worry, your vagina is a closed space, so the disc can’t get lost. Sometimes it feels high or hard to reach, especially after waking up or sex. You can wait 20–30 minutes and it may settle lower, or gently push it down using your muscles, similar to when you’re having a bowel movement.
Comfort & Fit

Should I be able to feel the disc inside me?
No, if you can feel it, something’s probably off. Try pushing it a bit higher, and if it still doesn’t feel comfortable, you might want to try the smaller size.
Is it normal to leak with a disc?
Yes and No! A little leak can happen, especially when you’re still learning. Make sure the disc is pushed up and tucked behind your pubic bone, most leaks stop once it’s positioned correctly.
What if my disc feels too big/small?
Most people can use either size comfortably. If it’s too small, it can be tricky to position and may move around, causing leaks. If it’s too big, it can be hard to insert fully behind the pubic bone and might feel some pressure.
Everyday Life with a Disc

Can I pee or poop with it in?
Yes! The disc sits in your vagina, so it doesn’t block your urethra or rectum. Sometimes when you bear down during a bowel movement, the disc can shift and even empty a little into the toilet, that’s not a leak, just a self-empty. Most of the time it settles back into place, or you can gently nudge it with a finger if needed.
Can I wear it overnight?
Yes! You can wear your disc for up to 12 hours. For a more peaceful sleep, just empty it before bed and again in the morning.
Can I have sex while using a disc?
Yes! That’s one of the biggest benefits of menstrual discs. Since it sits high below your cervix, your vaginal canal still has room for intimacy. We recommend emptying it beforehand for extra comfort, and you’ll enjoy mess-free period sex.
Can I use it with an IUD?
Yes! Unlike cups, discs don’t create suction, so they’re totally safe to use with an IUD. With cups, you need to be extra careful during removal and sometimes trim the strings with a gynecologist’s help, but with discs, there’s no suction to worry about.
Health & Safety

Is it safe to reuse a disc?
Yes! Reusable discs are made from medical-grade silicone, which is safe for long-term use. Just sterilize your disc before and after each cycle, and rinse it with cold water (or mild soap and water) between uses during your period.
How do I clean and sterilize it?
You’ve got a few options!
- You can boil your disc in water for about 10 minutes
- use a silicone sterilizer in the microwave (3–5 minutes)
- clean it with a Milton tablet
- use an electric sterilizer.
Between uses during your period, just rinse with water or mild, fragrance-free soap.
Can discs cause TSS (toxic shock syndrome)?
The chance is extremely low. Medical-grade silicone is a trusted material used in many medical devices and rigorously tested for safety. Products that meet ISO 13485 standards go through thorough lab testing for sensitivity, toxicity, and irritation (biocompatibility). The Mooneva Menstrual Disc is fully tested and produced in an ISO-certified facility, ensuring it’s safe and gentle for your body.
How long do they last before replacing?
With proper care, reusable medical-grade discs can last up to 10 years. However, you should replace yours sooner if you notice cracks, changes in the silicone texture, stickiness, holes, or any damage.
Lifestyle & Special Situations

Can I use Mooneva disc if I have a tilted uterus?
Many people with a tilted uterus can use discs comfortably. However, if your uterus is very tilted, it might be difficult to keep the disc below the cervix, and it may not work well for you.
Can I use Moonevadosc postpartum?
No, discs aren’t meant for postpartum bleeding. You can start using one with your first period after giving birth, which usually happens around 2,3 months later.
Can I swim with Mooneva disc in?
Yes! Menstrual discs are perfect for swimming. They stay in place and provide reliable protection, so you can enjoy the water worry-free. We recommend emptying it before and after swimming.
Are they good for heavy periods?
Yes! The larger Mooneva disc holds up to 60 ml, more than most other period products, so it’s great for heavy flow days.
Do they work during sports or exercise?
Yes! Discs stay in place during activity, but for heavy exercise, pressure on your pelvic muscles can sometimes push it slightly. We recommend emptying it beforehand, and if you’re new to discs, use a pantyliner as a backup until you’re confident.
Comparisons

What is the difference between menstrual disc and cup?
Discs sit higher in the vaginal canal, below the cervix, while cups sit lower. Discs don’t rely on suction, can hold more, and allow for mess-free sex, all while being just as safe and comfortable.
Is mooneva disc better than tampons or pads?
Everyone’s body is different, so there’s no single “best” option. Discs offer a safe, reusable, comfortable, and mess-free alternative, giving you more choices to find what works best for you.
